The tooth fairy visited a nursery in Hilperton after it was given an award for its efforts in promoting oral healthcare to its children.
Just Learning Nursery in Hackett Place, Paxcroft Mead, received a Gold Happy Little Teeth award from the Wiltshire Community Healthcare Service’s oral healthcare promotion team last Thursday.
The staff at the nursery have been using various methods over the past few months to teach the pre-school children, who are aged three and four, about the importance of cleaning their teeth, maintaining a healthy diet and going to see the dentist regularly.
Senior nursery nurse Janice Burch said: “We had lots of different activities from growing our own fruit and vegetables in the garden, to talking about healthy eating and doing health cooking like soups and pizza with fresh ingredients.
“We also did cleaning teeth activities where we put food colouring on their teeth and they cleaned it off, we had a visit from an oral hygienist and we did role play where we set up a pretend dental surgery.”
Oral healthcare promotion co-ordinator Dot Wheadon presented the nursery with its award and gave each child a toothbrush, mug and toothpaste as a prize.
