Youngsters take pole position in Trowbridge

Pole dancing exercise classes for teenagers are on offer at a local youth café in Trowbridge.

The Teen Pole classes started on Saturday at the Silhouettes youth café in the Stone Mill building, next to The Shires shopping centre.

The café is run by the charity Trowbridge Annual Festival of Fun (TAFF), which is run by Trowbridge Town Council and provides activities for young people over the summer.

The town council’s community services manager Steve Nash said: “Young people will be able to exercise using pole dancing techniques in the youth section of the café.

“The classes will take place weekly and follows demand from a number of young people in the town for this novel idea.”

The café also has plans to hold a Wiltshire’s Got Talent competition, which will start in March, with application forms available from the café.

The winning act will get to perform on stage in the town park at the Community Spotlight event in August along with the show’s main headline act, which organisers are still keeping under wraps.

The selection process will take place throughout April, May and June.

For more information on either event, call Silhouettes on 01225 763227.

Well suppose this is a good idea, as it will be the only work most of them would be able to get in the future..

hummm I wonder what David Cameron would say - I'm all for young people getting healthy but I dont think gyrating around a pole is that appropriate..

Maybe I don't quite understand this pole dancing thing but I have always associated it with prostitutes. As such an article on the subject featuring a 10 year old child seems very off to me.

I agree with you there completely and any parents that encourage this are mad, there are lots of other activities kids can do to keep fit that are much nicer.
