SWINDON Supermarine have picked up yet another new player ahead of their Southern League Premier Division six-pointer at Clevedon Town tonight.
Manager Mark Collier, who has snapped up Chris Allen, David Bampton, Ashan Holgate, Chris Taylor and Jake Harris in recent weeks, has now moved for ex-Redditch centre-back Adam McLaughlin.
The youngster has been playing for the University of Gloucestershire and was part of the side that triumphed in the BUCS Trophy recently, as his team beat Glasgow University 1-0 in the final.
Fellow new signing Bampton is amongst a trio of players who face late fitness tests ahead of this evening’s game and McLaughlin’s involvement could depend on whether the ex-Swindon Town man sits it out.
Chris Allen and Nick Stanley will also have to prove their fitness at the last minute but definitely sidelined are skipper Matt Robinson, Justyn McKay and Mark Barnes.
With Marine’s injury situation still desperate, Collier is still talking to other players and dual registration deals could be an option.
Despite their troubles with player availability, Supermarine’s form has been encouraging since the end of January, with the team having lost just one game of their last 10.
Clevedon lie just one place above Supermarine in the table but Collier’s men have plenty of matches in hand, leading to questions over whether tonight’s match is a must-win or a must-not-lose encounter.
“You can assess that during the game,” said Collier. “As matches go on you can break them down into little segments.
“We try to win every game but maybe sometimes we have to reassess. Most clubs and managers are tactically astute and we have to make sure we’re the same.”
On tonight’s contest against the Seasiders, he added: “Clevedon are fighting for their lives but the pressure’s on them with us having five games in hand.
“They need to beat us and it’s a big three points on offer.”
Elsewhere in the Southern League Premier Division this evening, Chippenham Town host Tiverton Town.
Tiverton held Cambridge City to a goal-less draw on Saturday but are still a side still very much involved in the relegation struggle.
In Division One South and West, Cirencester Town make the journey to struggling Andover.
