Police renew witness appeal a week after Chippenham bank raid

Police have spent the evening in Chippenham town centre appealing for new information about last week's ram raid on a bank.

At around 6.45pm last Monday a silver Ford Focus was driven through the front window of Halifax in High Street.

Three men got out, grabbed cash boxes from security staff making a delivery, and made off in a black Volkswagen van.

This evening officers spent several hours stopping anyone walking past the building society to ask if they were in the area at the same time last week.

PC Emma Higgins said: "We are just talking to members of the public to find out if anyone has any more information.

"There might be someone walking past who saw something last week.

"Even if it seems like a small piece of information it might be important."

There were also officers in St Mary's Street, where the robbers had parked their getaway car.

Anyone with any information can call Wiltshire Police on 0845 4087000 and ask for DS Mark Kent.

Good to know the council tax we pay isnt being used. The bank will have CCTV aswell as the cameras in other stores and the town centre cameras. Gees.

The orginial article last week said that all the raiders had covered their face, so CCTV is likely to be of limited use.
Don't see what's wrong in spending an hour or so asking if anyone was there last week and had seen anything, should the Police not try everything that they can, even if the odds are long it will get a result?
