A Devizes teenager has been charged with a public order offence after a disturbance in the centre of Marlborough in the early hours of Sunday.

Police were called to Hughenden Yard, outside the Azuza nightclub, shortly after midnight on reports of a large group of youths causing trouble.

PC Tom Kinderman was one of the officers who attended the disturbance. He said: “Two males in particular were extremely drunk and violent and shouted abuse to members of the public.

“Both tried to fight with the police officers but were soon overpowered and detained in the High Street.”

The two men were taken to Melksham custody unit where one was given an £80 fixed penalty ticket but the other, a 19-year-old from Devizes, was charged and released on bail.

He is due to appear before North Wiltshire magistrates in Chippenham on March 30.
