TOOLSTATION LEAGUE FIRST DIVISION: Poor start costs Westbury

9:30am Friday 19th March 2010

PAUL Brickley says that his side’s first-half performance led to their loss at the hands of promotion rivals Odd Down on Saturday.

“Nobody came out with any credit after the first half,” said the Westbury United manger.

“The team needs to realise that every game is a big game for them from now on and they can’t just turn up and expect to do well.

“They’ve got a chance of achieving something this season and they don’t want to throw it away.”

After falling behind in the first half, Westbury levelled the scores through midfielder Matty Smith’s fifth goal in four games.

Brickley was left frustrated when the visitors snatched a 96th-minute winner with a header from a controversial free-kick.

“It should never have been given,” he said.

“Their striker (Matty Rawlins) is very good at holding the ball up and he went down easily.”

Westbury travel to bottom club Minehead tomorrow and will be without Smith and Mark Pearce, who are both away.

The weekend’s game is the first of four outings in seven days for Brickley’s side.
