Malmesbury Abbey has a royal guest


Prince Charles is to visit Malmesbury Abbey for a fundraising classical concert on May 22.

His Royal Highness will be entertained by Russian violinist Sergey Krylov and the London Chamber Orchestra.

The concert is one of three which will be held over two days to raise money for the refurbishment of St Aldhelm’s Chapel and the housing of a 15th century bible in the abbey as well as new facilities in the tower at St John the Baptist Church, Little Somerford.

The charity Music in Country Churches, whose patron is Prince Charles, is organising the concerts.

On Friday May 21 the King’s Consort perform Purcell, Vivaldi and Handel at 7.30pm with the soprano Lorna Anderson.

On Saturday May 22 at 11am the violinist Sergey Krylov performs unaccompanied Bach and Paganini .

On the same day at 7.30pm the London Chamber Orchestra, with Krylov, perform Mozart and Haydn in the presence of His Royal Highness.
