Schoolchildren from near Melksham and Bradford on Avon have been learning all about Indian cuisine and costume.

Pupils at Churchfields, The Village School got a taste of India when workers from a restaurant in Melksham paid them a visit last week.

Staff from the Refa Tandoori in Market Place went to the school’s Monkton Farleigh site last Thursday and the Atworth site the day before to help pupils learn more about Indian culture, as part of an ongoing project.

Altogether 16 pupils took part in the experience, ranging in age from seven to 11. They were able to sample Indian cuisine as well as study traditional costume.

Teacher Kat Mills said: “It was wonderful and they were very good. They brought in some uncooked food and a deep fat fryer and were able to show the children what was in the food before cooking it. It was very nice.

“After we had tried all the different things, they then answered the children’s questions about where they and their families were from originally and what it was like living there.”
