Urchfont man dies after Devizes car crash

An elderly driver who was involved in an accident in Devizes today has died in hospital.

The 93-year-old man from Urchfont is thought to have suffered a medical condition as he drove along Nursteed Road just after 11am. His Peugeot car swerved across the road and crashed into a wall of Devizes School.

He was taken by ambulance to Wiltshire Police headquarters in London Road, Devizes, and airlifted to the Great Western Hospital, Swindon. But died soon after.

His 94-year-old wife was taken by ambulance to hospital and treated for shock and minor injuries. The road was closed for a number of hours while police investigated. Witnesses are asked to contact the roads policing unit at Chippenham Police Station on 0845 408 7000.
