Householders in the area are being urged to rummage through their attics for items for a “posh” car boot sale taking place at Stert, near Devizes, next month.

The country house car boot sale, a first for the local area, will take place at Manor Farm on Saturday May 22.

It is the brainchild of Clive Boyes, chairman of the Devizes branch of Cancer Research UK, and all proceeds will be going to the charity.

He said: “The idea is for people who don’t normally get involved in car boots to come along with items for sale that are a little bit more interesting than the usual run of videos and CDs.

“We have had a terrific response so far with over 30 pitches taken but there is plenty room for more so now is the time to get in touch with us to book your space.”

The organisers are hoping for a selection of vintage clothes, antiques, furniture and chattels at the sale. All proceeds will go to Cancer Research.

There is a flat rate of £25 per pitch and those visiting will pay £5 per car to get in. There will be plenty of parking at the farm, off the A342 at Monument Hill.

Mr Boyes added: “There will be some lovely items going on sale. I know of at least one person who will be selling the family silver. It really is going to be a case of boots full of treasure.” Those who have booked pitches can arrive on site from 7am. It will be open to the public from 9am to 2pm and there will be a refreshment van.
