The Rotary Club of Calne Motorcycle Meet and Summer Fun event will be extra special this year as it celebrates a landmark birthday.

The Motorcycle Meet will be marking its 10th anniversary this year on July 24 and the milestone coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

To mark the occasion, Lord Lansdowne has invited clubs and bikers from the area to a grand jazz finale on the lawn of Bowood House.

The Motorcycle Meet is known for taking over the centre of Calne one Saturday every July and is believed to be the largest free event of its type in the south west.

Rotarian Ivor Watkins said: “This year a grand ride-out is planned from Calne town centre through the grounds of Bowood and on to the lawn in front of Bowood house for jazz on the lawn.

“It is hoped that there will be a ‘fly by’ by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

“The organisers are looking for was many marque clubs, classic bikes, special interest and singles to join the celebration ride-out.

“This year we would especially like to see a grand turnout of veteran and vintage bikes showing the whole spectrum of biking.

“We are looking for at least 2,000 bikes to descend on Bowood and make this a bumper year for the charities and to spur the event on for another ten years.”

Money raised will go to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and local Rotary charities. Clubs can register for the event by emailing calnemotorcycleevent@tiscali.co.uk. For more details visit www.calnemotorcyclemeet.co.uk
