SWINDON opera singer and composerMaethelyiah won permission from English Heritage to film her video at Stonehenge.
The singer has written a novel called The Five Monsters and has now recorded an album of the same name, which focuses on the last three days of five men on death row.
“It is a psychological analysis of each moment before they die, a sort of visual diary of their last three days,’’ said Maethelyiah.
The West Swindon singer believes it is a great honour to be granted special permission to film The Cell, a track taken from her album, at Stonehenge.
“I am very proud of Wiltshire and we spent months of shooting which was hard to reduce to just a three-minute video. I had a vision to shoot inside the stone circle so I sent the track to English Heritage and they loved it,’’ she said.
Stonehenge is a sacred site and the singer was careful to respect that when filming.
She also included Avebury stone circle and Lydiard Park in the shoot.
The Cell depicts one of the men dreaming of freedom and the woman he loves.
To write the book and the album, the singer made a long study of people who have been sentenced to death. The whole project is called The Blooding Mask. Both book and album can be bought from www.iap-arts.com.
