Devizes sculptor Judy Boyt looks at things long term but one project that has just come to fruition in Liverpool has stretched even her legendary patience.

Ms Boyt, who lives at Easterton Sands, last week attended the unveiling of one of her horse sculptures which has been 13 years in the preparation.

She had been in discussion with former Liverpool dock workers about the erection of a monument commemorating Liverpool carters and their horses.

There were problems over funding and the committee of former workmen could not make up their minds as to how the horse should be portrayed.

But all was finally sorted out. The horse now stands in the middle of the former docks area and is aptly named Waiting.

Ms Boyt invited Angela Gifford from Garsden, near Malmesbury, to go to the unveiling as she had based the sculpture on Mrs Gifford’s horse Sovereign.

Ms Boyt said: “He was well received with people coming up to me and saying that he has soul.”
