Police have this morning confirmed that a biker who died in an accident yesterday afternoon is from Calne.

He died in a head on crash with another motorbike at an accident blackspot near Avebury which left the second rider being airlifted to Frenchay Hospital at Bristol with serious injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision on the A4361 yesterday Sunday afternoon on a bend by the Berwick Bassett junction.

This stretch of road with its notorious bends has claimed many victims and seen numerous deaths in recent years.

Police officers and paramedics were called to the road near the Berwick Bassett junction at around 2.20pm, but the driver of the Pan European motorbike died at the scene.

The rider of the Honda CBR 600 who comes from Swindon was air lifted to Frenchay Hospital with serious injuries.

No more information has been given about either rider.
