WOOTTON Bassett Town will host a charity football match against First Battalion The Rifles on Sunday (kick-off 12noon).

The match is part of a fun day and alongside the football there will be a bouncy castle, paintball range and tug o’ war contest, as well as a junior exhibition match during half time of the main game.

The club’s bar will be open throughout the day and all money raised will be split between Help for Heroes and the Rifles’ own charity, Care for Casualties, which supports the welfare of the regiment’s serving soldiers as well as its veterans.

The club is taking donations on the gate but there will be no fixed ticket prices.

Bassett boss Dave Turner explained: “It is something that is close to my heart because I am ex-Army.

“They contacted us initially because of the repatriations and they said it would be nice to come down to Bassett to play us.

“We’ll put out a team that’s representative of the club so it’ll be players from both the first and reserve teams.”

Based at Beachley Barracks, Monmouthshire, First Battalion the Rifles comprises First Battalion Devonshire and Dorset Light Infantry, and the First Battalion, Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Light Infantry.
