Trowbridge businessman Ian Bailey has spoken of how he and an employee helped police with vital evidence he hopes will help catch a man who headbutted a victim in the town centre.

Mr Bailey, who owns Bargain Booze, on Wicker Hill, provided officers with CCTV footage after staff member Phil Babb witnessed the attack last Tuesday.

Mr Bailey said: “The incident started towards Fore Street at about 9pm. An individual was walking down from Fore Street, he came towards the shop and stood outside the accountants and started arguing with two other men.”

He said they had obviously been drinking and Mr Babb spotted the situation on the CCTV.

Mr Babb then went outside and asked them to move on.

He came back into the store and called the police. The three men moved down to a nearby kebab van.

Mr Bailey said: “It was there that an assault took place, one of the males head butted the other. At that point my colleague had already called the police. ”

The police arrived shortly afterwards and Mr Bailey went to help police with the CCTV footage.

Mr Bailey said: “We work hard to try and obtain a good reputation in the community. We have very few issues but when we do have issues the police are quick to respond.”

Sergeant Malcolm McLundie said: “Staff at Bargain Booze are a great help with all manor of investigations on the CCTV system. ”
