Box youth club launches dance sessions

Box residents are hoping to give youngsters in the village more to do by expanding the youth club facilities on offer.

The Green Room youth club, which meets at the recreational ground pavilion every Wednesday evening, has enlisted the help of dance teacher Hannah Gay to run a new dance class.

The club already attracts around 40 members each week and hopes the new dance class, which will run on Mondays from 7.30pm until 8.30pm, will take off. The classes will be for youngsters aged 11 to 19 and sessions will cost £2.

Bob Hancock, club co-ordinator, said: “Hannah teaches contemporary type dance combining physical theatre, inviting the group to explore an array of issues through movement workshops, and working towards performances.

“One performance coming up will take in our local surroundings where the group will choreograph a piece of dance work on the hillside of the Box village.”

The performance will be performed as part of Box’s art exhibition on October 29 in the evening and October 30 and 31 in the daytime.

The youth club has already hosted a wide range of events for teenagers this summer including a coaching session with a former rugby player, a barbecue, and games of table tennis, pool, and table football.

Mr Hancock added: “The local boys and girls have enjoyed the rugby coaching using the skills of a professional coach who soon had their enthusiasm spinning.”

Anyone interested in joining the dance group should contact Mr Hancock on (01225) 811950.
