WITNESSES are being sought after a man was injured in what police have described as a ‘frantic attack’.

The incident took place in the town centre at approximately 10.30pm on Thursday night.

The victim was walking along Regent Street, and as he reached the junction with Canal Walk, he was approached by another man who launched the vicious attack.

PC Clare Sylvester-Wyness said as the victim passed the other man the attacker turned round and head-butted him.

“He then proceeded to punch the victim in a frantic attack to the upper body area,” she said.

“The victim was also kneed to the stomach and at this time, he fell to the floor.”

The attacker also stamped on his head and continued to punch him. The assault continued until a workman, who was in the area at the time, intervened.

The attacker ran off in the direction of Canal Walk. He is described as white, between 5ft 8 and 6ft tall and of skinny build. He was wearing pale blue jeans, a pale grey and white t-shirt, a baseball cap and trainers.

The victim required medical help following the assault.

Anyone who witnessed the attack, or has information, is asked to call Swindon Police on 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
