Devizes Visitor Centre deputy manager Carole Butler will be trekking along the Inca trail in Peru to raise money for the Dorothy House Hospice.

Mrs Butler, who lives in Devizes, has been training for the past five months in preparation for the ten day challenge that starts tomorrow.

She said: “I have been doing lots of walks plus yoga to help with my breathing to adjust to the altitude and aqua aerobics to build my strength up.”

Mrs Butler has already exceeded her fund-raising target of £1,000 and now has pledges totalling £1,500 but she would like to raise more.

The money she raises will go to Dorothy House’s Tulip Fund, set up in memory of her daughter Julia Smith, who died of cancer in 2005 aged 27. Since then Mrs Butler and her family and friends have raised £7,000 for the hospice.

Mrs Butler said: “I think Julia would be pleased and supportive of me doing the trek. Julia spent the last three weeks of her life at Dorothy House. The doctors, nurses and staff looked after her so well.”
