KITTY King took the top title on offer at a rain soaked Longleat International Horse Trials, writes KATE HEALEY.

Heavy rain forced the cancellation of the Novice and Intermediate sections at the event, backed by KBIS British Equestrian Insurance & Barclay Bate Charted Accountants.

But the top CIC** (one day international) competition was able to go ahead on the last of three days and King dominated proceedings.

The Lower Stanton St Quintin rider took the top two places on Zidante and General Opposition, who she rode for Trowbridge owner Ben Walden and Hampshire’s Janet Jarvis respectively.

King’s two rides went clear cross country with just a few time penalties and just one down in the show jumping phase cost General Opposition top spot over his stablemate.

Local young riders Hettie Dewing and Lici Hawker both made the line up in the BE100 sections.

Dewing, Scottish born and a pupil at Stonar School, Atworth, was a close runner-up in the BE100 Plus section on Master Flight, also a successful working hunter.

Chippenham-based Hawker was third on Caroline Payne’s six year old McGuigans Lad who has been a model of consistency in his 13 BE outings over two seasons, finishing out of the top 10 just once.
