Generous pupils at Wootton Bassett School have wrapped up hundreds of boxes for people in eastern Europe.
Pupils in Year 7, 8 and 9 have donated 121 boxes to the Rotary shoebox scheme, which are delivered to people in poverty.
Year 9 manager Linda Woodruffe said the school’s contribution, which was given to the Rotary Club of Wootton Bassett and District last week, was a team effort.
“The pupils have been very enthusiastic,” she said.
“They have covered the boxes, personalised them and designed them to suit different age groups.
“Some were purely toy-based while others were household-based.”
Boxes also contained toiletries and educational items, which had all been chosen and packed by the pupils.
“We built a big wall and it was a real hub of excitement,” said Ms Woodruffe.
“Quite often the boxes are the first time the child has ever received a gift in their life so it is quite poignant.”
It was the second year that the school had taken part.
It was also co-ordinated by community liaison officer Anita Ellis, as well as Miss Sanders for Year 7 and Mrs Jones for Year 8.
Bernard Aslett, a member of the Rotary Club of Wootton Bassett and District, said: “They took a larger number than last year. It was lovely to see. I think the enthusiasm of the school was outstanding.”
