A MUSICAL day hit all the right notes as children got a chance to try out different musical instruments.
The Great Western Youth Band held an open day on Saturday to encourage children to get involved in the band.
Amanda Butler, said: “The day went well. We ended up with 14 interested new players.
“The drum kit was highly popular, if somewhat noisy for us who were trying to serve the teas and coffees.
“I think it is important for young children because it gives them a focus, it is great fun and helps with social skills.”
The youth band, which has 25 players, has had success in competitions as well coming first at an event held at Trafalgar School, in Downton, near Salisbury, two weeks ago.
And the intermediate band, which has about 35 players, came third out of seven in their section of the competition at the school.
The group can usually provide an instrument and basic tuition on a Saturday morning for anyone who wants to join.
