SWINDON’S Simon Belcher spent two days at Thruxton in Hampshire as part of a test programme as he readies himself for his first season in the Clio Cup.
Belcher has competed in the National Legends Championship in the past but decided to make the switch to racing in a more powerful car in the support event to the British Touring Car Championship this year.
He will visit all the major circuits around the country and will have to adapt to a much-changed race weekend from the one he has been used to in the past, with only one qualifying session and two races and not the usual qualifying and up to six races.
Belcher put in some impressive laps during testing as got to grips with his new race car.
He will do some more testing in preparation for the season opener at the end of March in his quest to bring success back to Swindon.
Belcher’s ultimate goal is to progress into the full British Touring Car Championship, and a season in the Clio Cup will provide him with valuable experience as he looks to achieve that.
