The Olympic torch might have caused a stir in Wilt-shire, but torchbearers have something else to get excited about after another torch was unveiled in Trowbridge.

Stonemason Noel Morgan has teamed up with father-and-son metalwork artists Aubrey and Jason Gumm, of Metal Products at Paxcroft Farm, and Georgia Foskett, from Phoenix Tattoo Studio, in Roundstone Street, to create a torch for the Parkrun running scheme.

Sean Price, organiser of the Southwick Parkrun scheme, said: “The Parkrun torch is a collaboration of top quality local talent.

“Jason and Aubrey are the creators of Forrest, the statue which stands at the entrance to Southwick Country Park to celebrate the first Parkrun last year.

“In August after the Olympics closing ceremony the torch will be permanently fixed to the statue.”

Mr Morgan, of Longfield Stone, sculpted the torch before the Gumms got to work on creating it and Miss Foskett put the finishing touches to it with paint.

He said: “The torch will be a fine addition to Forrest.

“It is amazing really that the real torch is going to come straight past him.”

Twenty torchbearers have been chosen to take it on runs between now and August 18.

On March 25 it had its first outing at the Sport Relief run in Trowbridge Park.

It will also make a weekly appearance at the Saturday runs in Southwick Country Park at 9am.

Other destinations will include Melksham, Great Chalfield, Shaw and the Bradford on Avon Sports Fest-ival on May 19.
