A bumper entry of more than 900 horses and riders has been received for this year's Barbury International Horse Trials, being held near Marlborough June 28 to July 1.

The horse trials will welcome the world's leading Event riders, with some nations earmarking the event as their final competitive practice for team horses and riders prior to the Olympics in Greenwich Park just four weeks later.

The event culminates with the CIC three star competition on Sunday July 1, with the novice and two star competitions running on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. With the British Eventing team now confirmed by the British Olympic Association for this summer's games; William Fox-Pitt, Kristina Cook, Mary King, Piggy French and Zara Phillips hold multiple entries across the Barbury weekend, including their respective team named horses; Lionheart, Miners Frolic, Imperial Cavalier, DHI Trooper W and High Kingdom.

Entries from Team GB named horses and riders also feature, alongside other international riders with Olympic hopes in an additional unaffiliated FEI 4 star dressage test on the Friday, giving riders the opportunity to ride through the Olympic dressage test, with the show jumping phase taking place on Saturday.

Across the four days International entries include Mark Todd (NZ), Andrew Nicholson (NZ), Clayton Fredericks (AUS), Chris Burton (AUS), Lucinda Fredericks (AUS), Paul Tapner (Aus), Catherine Burrell (AUS) and Elizabeth Power (IRE). The American team have entered 12 riders, under their Chef D'Equipe Captain Mark Phillips, designer of the Barbury cross country course. Nigel Bunter, owner of the Barbury Estate, said: "We are delighted that this year's event has received such a strong entry. The final preparations are now being made to the venue and we want to ensure it provides an excellent competition for Olympic bound horses and riders. It is set to be a unique and fabulous spectacle for visitors." Days One and Two: Thursday June 28 and Friday June 29, kick off on Thursday with the three star and two star dressage. The Burghley Young Event Horse competition is a further highlight on Day One featuring the equine stars of tomorrow.

On Day Two, Olympic bound riders including the British team, will compete in unaffiliated dressage, riding the test that will feature at this summer's games. In addition the final dressage tests of the two and three star event, the Retraining of Racehorses dressage and Novice competition will run.

Day Three - Saturday June 30: The two star showjumping begin the proceedings, then horse's and riders will negotiate the adrenalin charged cross country. The cross country at Barbury is run across about two and half miles of stunning Marlborough Downs and offers excellent viewing for visitors. The three star showjumping phase, as well as unaffiliated showjumping featuring Olympic hopefuls will be a further highlight on the Saturday.

Day Four - Sunday 1 July: All eyes will turn to the the prestigious three star cross country, with riders going in reverse order of placing. Pippa Funnell on Billy Landretti landed the spoils at last years event in a nail biting finish, with William Fox-Pitt, Lucinda Fredericks and Nicola Wilson also belonging to the competition's roll of honour in previous years. This year's winner will walk away with £5,000 in prize money, generously sponsored by St James's Place Wealth Management. The day will begin with Retraining of Racehorses Championship jump off.

A further highlight in the main arena on the Saturday and Sunday is the first leg of the Hit Air Pro Bull Rider series with an Eventers V Jockeys rodeo on a mechanical bull. Jump jockey Robert "Choc" Thornton will captain the Jockeys, alongside team members Timmy Murphy and Richard Johnson. Australian rider Paul Tapner will head the Eventers and will be joined by Oliver Townend and Laura Collett. Funds raised will be in aid of the ABF - The Soldiers Charity, Injured Jockeys Fund and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

In addition to the equestrian spectacle, the Wiltshire County Show on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1, offers a jam packed celebration of rural life and offers something for everyone. Featuring pedigree livestock, agricultural machinery, specialist cars, military vehicles, an assault course, a parade of hounds, sheep shearing and sheep dog trials, bird of prey demo’s as well as ferret and llama racing.

The inaugural CGA Festival of Food will transform the show into a food lovers' paradise. A series of cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs in the AGA Rangemaster Cookery theatre will be the highlight alongside a food bonanza of hand and home-made produce and innovative cookery ideas.

Confirmed chefs include; Brian Turner of Ready Steady Cook fame, Masterchef finalists Annie Assheton and Andrew Kojima, Peter Vaughan of The Bistro & Cookery School in Devizes, and Lucknam Park's Michelin starred chef Hywel Jones and Hrishikesh ‘Kesh’ Desai.
