Youngsters were thrilled to meet popular television character Tractor Ted at Bowood House this bank holiday.

More than 1,600 people visited the house and gardens during the weekend.

Children watched clips from their favourite movies, saw farm machinery and newborn chicks, and played on several mini diggers.

Cartoon character Ted was the brainchild of Calne mother-of-three Alexandra Heard and Somerset farmer David Horler. His clips aim to educate youngsters about farming, including where food comes from, the seasons and how to care for animals.

At Bowood, Ted proved a hit with all ages, especially children under five.

Spokeswoman Charlotte Doherty said she was delighted to see Ted.

She said: “We believe it’s a natural home for Tractor Ted – the green space, the back-to-nature feel and the value of good old-fashioned outdoor pursuits for children. We hope he will come back in the future.”
