ATHLETICS: Kennedy continues fine form

FRESH from his medal success at the England Athletics Championships last week, Westbury sprinter William Kennedy won the under 15 boys’ 100m and 400m with times of 11.4secs and 53.9secs respectively at the final Avon League meeting of the summer in Yate on Sunday.
It was a second straight weeke d of success for the 14-year-old , is coached by Colin Baross at Team Bath ,after he sent new personal bests of 11.05 (wind assisted) seconds and 22.90 in the 100m and 200m respectively in Bedford.
Those times put Kennedy to fifth in the UK Rankings for under 15 boy’ at both the 100m and 200m sprints.
In the field at Yate, Ellie-J Webb, who also lives in Westbury, continued her fine season with victories in the under 15 girls’ shot putt (9.20m) and discus (25.75m).
Maximum points for a one-two finish for Team Bath came in the under 11 boys’ high jump with Aiden Wynne and Zak Bembridge both clearing 1.10m and in the under 13 boys’ high jump.
Meanwhile, George Adams claimed victory with a personal best leap of 1.45m with clubmate Jake Burkey second in 1.40m.
Bradford on Avon international duathlete Phil Wylie had a great Bank Holiday Monday as he shattered the course record to win the Arlingham Village 4.5 mile road race in Gloucestershire.
Wylie showed he has recovered from recent illness as he defeated four-times winner and former course record holder Dave Roper of Cheltenham, surging clear at halfway of the flat, fast course on the banks of the River Severn to win in a time of 21mins 26secs.
That carved 30 seconds off the previous record while runner-up Roper was also inside his own former best with 21:49.
