THREE TA soldiers from Swindon have raised more than £800 for Cancer Research UK after running this year’s Race For Life in support of a comrade suffering with breast cancer.

Warrant Officer 2 Jaz Hood, Lance Corporal Lyn Henderson and Major Fiona Gordon, all from Swindon’s 280 Movement Control Squadron, set out to raise £500 but with donations continuing to come in, they have managed to almost double it.

The three squadron members signed up to the race in Cheltenham in support of Sergeant Jill Morris, who is currently fighting breast cancer and was at the race to cheer on her supporters.

Combining their Army combat trousers with bright pink T-shirts, the team stood out from the crowd and Fiona, the unit’s Officer Commanding, finished the race in first place, in a record time of 21 minutes.

Lyn followed closely behind, crossing the finish line in sixth place.

Fiona said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have raised more than £800.

“Cancer Research UK is a fantastic charity to support and a very personal one to us. “We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us by donating so generously and cheering us on during the race.”
