After a year of fundraising, staff at Sainsbury’s, Calne, have raised more than £1,500 to buy equipment for Wiltshire Air Ambulance. The charity was chosen as the store’s annual charity last year and it used the money to buy a Combi Carrier for paramedics. A Combi Carrier helps to transport patients with a suspected spinal or hip injury from the accident scene to a hospital bed, by reducing the amount of movement needed to lift and carry a person. The money came from customer donations and staff members selling Wiltshire Air Ambulance Christmas cards and home-made cakes. Store spokesman Lyn Clark said: “It’s a fantastic piece of equipment and it’s thanks to our customers that we have been able to buy it.” Sainsbury’s next cause will be Hannah’s Trees, a charity set up in memory of 13-year-old Hannah Owen from Calne, which aims to provide trees for children in local hospices at Christmas time.
