Youngsters at St Joseph’s Nursery in Devizes returned from their summer holidays to find a massive sunflower had grown in their new vegetable plot.
They had planted the flower in June and were amazed to see it had grown 12ft high.
The nursery has been given a plot of land for the vegetable plot and flowers by neighbours Community First.
Nursery staff member Laura Dunford and parent Nadine Mortimer tend the plot with the children.
Delia Hatala, manager of St Joseph’s Nursery, said: “This is the first time we have planted anything in the plot, we normally send the children home with little plant pots.
“It was wonderful to see the sunflower and the children are thrilled with it, they think it’s a giant.
“It must be good soil and possibly the rain we have had that has brought it on.”
