A petition calling for speed restrictions and better road safety measures in a Trow-bridge street has been handed to councillors after a car crashed through a garden wall for a third time.

The petition, which attracted 302 signatures, was started by Martin Weston after a suspected drink-driver crashed into his wall in Wiltshire Drive last month.

It is the third time since 1998 the wall has been hit by cars.

Mr Weston handed the petition to Cllr Graham Payne, who chairs Trowbridge Area Board.

He accepted it and put it on the agenda for Thursday night’s meeting.

The petition will also be discussed by Trowbridge’s Community Area Transport Group next month.

Cllr Payne said: “I absolutely support the petition because the roads in my ward, including Wiltshire Drive, see a lot of excess speed.

“I hope we can get a couple of prosecutions.”
