TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Larks silenced by Lacock (From This Is Wiltshire)

LACOCK FC made it two wins on the bounce after they followed up their opening-day success against Trowbridge Town Reserves with a 7-3 victory over Civil Service Larkhall, who like Lacock are new to the league this term.

Both sides played their part in an enthralling first 45 minutes that saw the teams share six goals, goals from Jed McGarrigle and George West gave Larkhall a 2-0 advantage.

Jack Craig halved the deficit for Lacock only for Larkhall to open up a two-goal cushion thanks to a second from West.

Lacock responded well and they got themselves back into the game with Jack Craig scoring a second and their comeback was completed just before half time when Liam Shipman tied the scores at three apiece.

The second half failed to produce the excitement that the first period did, but with the opening goal proving crucial it was Lacock who got it, Jamie Murphy putting the villagers in front for the first time.

A second from Murphy gave Lacock some much needed breathing space and the points were finally wrapped up thanks to a double from Enda Culligan.

The Fleece FC 5 Levi’s FC 1

TWO of the league’s newcomers The Fleece FC and Levi’s FC finally got their campaign underway when they met at the Beeches Shaw and it was the Fleece who took the honours, courtesy of their 5-1 success.

Fleece led 1-0 at the break thanks to a 25-yard free kick from Nick Gleeson which somehow found its way past the Levi’s keeper Paul Pitman.

Levi’s, who were sporting an old Cardiff City strip, restored parity through Jason Povey, but his effort proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Fleece regained the lead with a second from Nick Gleeson.

Substitute Myles Woodward added a third for the Fleece before goals from former Westwood star man Tom Downes and former Trowbridge Wanderers frontman Simon Parfitt saw off a gallant challenge for a Levi’s side who were struggling for a side due to injuries and other commitments.

Trowbridge Town Reserves 4 Polenez Westbury 3

TROWBRIDGE Town Reserves came out on top in a seven-goal thriller against last terms whipping boys Polenez Westbury with the Bees edging a thriller 4-3.

Trowbridge started the match strongly, with Westbury chasing shadows and unable to get hold of the ball.

During the first 10 minutes chances for Phil Bicknell, Natty Mills and Kurt James went begging before, Mills made it 1-0 to the Bees on 15 minutes with a clinical side-footed finish.

Five minutes later James cut in from the right hand side and crossed the ball for winger Craig Neate to volley in from 15 yards out with an excellent shot which extended Trowbridge's lead.

Trowbridge continued to dominate possession, and had further chances to score with Kieran McCaldon, James, Bicknell and Mills all having decent efforts saved by Westbury's keeper, but it wasn't until the 40th minute that Neate popped up again to score his second with a controlled shot across the goal into the corner for 3-0.

The second half started with Trowbridge becoming a little complacent, and with passes going astray, Westbury took the opportunity to get a goal back on 59 minutes after a scramble in the area led to Mirek Uszpelkat netting.

The goal seemed to unsettle Trowbridge, and a further shock was to come, when a quick turn eighteen yards out and a half volleyed shot from Mickal Koszycki found the back of the net on 65 minutes to put Westbury back within a goal their hosts.

Trowbridge tried to calm things down after this and started to find their rhythm again, and were rewarded when a series of corners which led to Tom Moore heading in at the near post to give them back a two goal advantage.

This was shortlived, when a disputed penalty was awarded five minutes later and Krzystof Kopacz scored to make it 3-4.

The last 15 minutes saw Trowbridge take control once again, and they were unlucky not to add another goal or two, with Ashley Poms, Moore, Aaron McCaldon and James all going close but come the final whistle the hosts had done enough to secure a nail biting 4-3 win.

United FC 4 Bratton Reserves 2

UNITED FC overturned a two goal deficit to claim a 4-2 home success over Bratton Reserves.

Liam Griffiths scored twice to put Bratton into what looked a comfortable lead.

United had chances to get back into the games with Jakub Koman going close when he lobbed the keeper only to be denied by the post.

They were rewarded for their effort just before half time, a brilliant through ball from Artur Laga found Mariusz Jackievics who dummied the advancing keeper and rolled the ball in from close range for 1-2.

United started the second half the busier of the two sides and some excellent football led to them scoring a second with Jackievics finishing of a superb team move to tie the game at 2-2.

United took the lead after another flowing move resulted in Mateusz Piotrowski breaking clear and his exquisite lob from five yards made it 3-2.

Bratton had the opportunity to level matters, but Liam Griffiths missed out on the chance of a hat-trick when he placed a penalty wide of the post.

The miss was to prove costly as United now with their tails up added a fourth, more excellent team work led to Krzystof Kopacz firing home another well taken goal that wrapped up United’s first win of the season.

Westwood News 6 Bradford United Reserves 0

WESTWOOD News got the better of their near-neighbours Bradford United Reserves in what was a comfortable win for Mark Hurkett’s side in their first derby day battle of the new season.

Westwood who last term were beaten twice by the visitors to Bobbin Lane cruised to a 6-0 win, but had the villagers taken their chances they could well have doubled their winning margin.

Westwood took 23 minutes before breaking down their guests but once Steve Bryant had put them in front on 23 minutes two more goals quickly followed with Dan Thorne scoring both of them.

Thorne increased Westwood’s lead on 44 minutes when he completed a well-taken treble.

The second half was just a couple of minutes old when Westwood added their fifth, Josh Maguire finding the target and although the hosts threatened to run riot they could only add another to their tally.

That came from Maguire on 60 minutes when his second of the afternoon completed the scoring for the dominant home side.
