A HAIRSTYLIST has shown he is a cut above the rest by setting a world record in memory of Tami Brown.

Chris Miller, of Miller and Holland Hairdressing, has raised more than £3,400 and set a record by cutting 51 people’s hair in as many hours in the Brunel Centre over the weekend.

The event, which started at 9am on Saturday and finished at 11am yesterday, was in memory of 28-year-old Tami, of Abbey Meads , who died of cancer on July 29.

Chris, 33, said: “I am really overwhelmed by the response.

“Seeing the three pictures of Tami on the wall in front of me kept me going.

“Tami was just incredible, I love her to bits and miss her lots. She was a massive inspiration.

“If she had seen me this weekend she would have said I was bonkers.

“It got a bit hairy trying to get someone to get their hair cut at 2am in the morning but we found somebody on Facebook. She was on her way to Gatwick.”

Tami was diagnosed with colon cancer when she was only 20.

In April 2010, she was told that she had months to live after the cancer that had invaded her body twice previously had returned to her lungs and abdomen.

All the money raised during the event is going to Tami’s two nominated charities, Yes To Life and the Prospect Hospice .

“This is in tribute to Tami. Yes to Life gave her a couple of years extra.

“They do alternative treatments that you don’t get on the NHS,” he said.

Chris, who first met Tami at a calendar shoot for Macmillan, had a couple of hours sleep on Saturday morning and a few hours on Sunday night.

The last haircut yesterday was for Tami’s sister, Heidi Beales, 25, of Haydon End.

She said: “Tami would be very proud if she could see us.

“She would laugh about the conversations and jokes and she would be very impressed and proud of Chris.

“It is hard at times. It is so hard to see the pictures on the wall here but it is nice to be raising money in her memory.”

The event was organised by Tami's Angels, a group of 15 of Tami’s close friends and family who are set to continue her legacy and fundraising goals with fundraising organisation, Tami’s Wish.
