DAVE Turner admits Wootton Bassett ’s FA Cup trip to Conference South giants Dorchester will be ‘the biggest game in the club’s history’.

Bassett visit the Magpies in 10 days’ time in what will be the club’s first-ever second qualifying round tie.

“I can’t see how it’s not the biggest game in the club’s history. It’s got to be,” said boss Turner.

“One, they have never been that far before and two, they have drawn out a Conference South side in a competitive game, and Bassett have never played anyone at that level in competitive football.

“It doesn’t get much better than this, let’s be honest. There’s only probably two clubs in our area that we would have taken over that - Salisbury and Chippenham.

“We’re going to one of the biggest non-league clubs in this part of the country, I don’t think I’ll have a problem getting people to turn up to training.

“I’m proud and absolutely buzzing - it’s the biggest game I’ve been involved in since I’ve been in local football. It’s a fantastic draw and whatever the result, that’s going to be there forever.”

Turner, who has been in charge at Bassett since the beginning of the 2008/09 season, was pragmatic when asked if his side could spring a shock.

“You never go into a game wanting to lose, but you also have to temper that with some reality,” he said.

“Nine times out of 10 they would absolutely wipe the floor with us. They would have to have a horrendous day at the office and we’d have to play above ourselves.

“But that doesn’t matter because we can’t lose, it’s a magnificent day for the club.

“It’s just going to be a great day for everyone and not just the players, people like Roger Williamson who does the kit for me.

“The kit is always laid out and fresh, and little things like that mean I don’t have to worry.

“He’s a miserable git, but he’s brilliant and we wouldn’t be without him.

“There’s lots of people like that who will come along to Dorchester and enjoy it.”

Turner plans to seek advice from former Highworth manager Dave Webb, now in charge at Supermarine, who gained a 1-1 draw against Salisbury in the FA Cup in 2010/11.

Bassett travel to Shrivenham in the first round of the Floodlit Cup this evening and the first XI is expected to be made up of inexperienced youngsters and reserves.
