Singer and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Sam Kelly will head up the acts at this month’s Westbury Music and Arts Festival.

Sam will perform some of the covers he sang in the ITV show this year, along with his contemporary folk music originals.

He will be joined by musicians from across the region, including cellist Beth Porter, performance poet Muriel Lavender and the Street Bandits, at The Laverton, from 7.30pm on September 29.

Concert organiser and musician Leander Morales, involved in selecting the festival bill for the second time, said: “I wanted to add something to the festival line-up, so it will appeal more to younger people and perhaps get a few people away from their TVs and checking out the talent on their doorstep.

“Alongside the professional artists, we have an ex-Matravers student, Danielle Reed, who is a very talented singer but not on the circuit; just to give her a platform and perhaps inspire some other young people.”

The festival runs from September 21 to October 6 and will include a lute workshop with Dilton Marsh lutenist Din Ghani, on September 30, and an art exhibition at The Laverton and Matravers School.

Songwriter Tony Hazzard, who has written for The Hollies, Manfred Mann and Lulu, will play Westbury Conservative Club on September 22, while Irish folk group Finnegan’s Wake return to the festival at Bratton Jubilee Hall on September 29.

October events include life-drawing and dancing classes at Matravers School, on October 2 and 4 respectively, and the Lee Ingram Jazz Quintet at the Three Daggers, Edington, on October 5. Opus One Swing Band play the Paragon Hall on October 6.
