Hundreds of people had fun in the sun as part of the Trowbridge Carnival Country Fair celebrations in the town’s park on Saturday.

The fair, now in its 36th year, featured children’s rides, a fancy dress competition and a host of stalls and attractions.

Maryrose Mantle, the chairman of the carnival, said: “It was bigger than last year and everyone seemed to have a really good time.

“The sun shone and that does make a huge different to the amount of people who come and it also adds to the atmosphere.”

Mrs Mantle said one of the day’s highlights was a performance by Trowbridge singer Helen Marles, who wowed the crowds with her voice.

Trowbridge Mayor John Knight, who opened the festival, said: “Our thanks must go out to the hard working carnival committee members and the chairman, Maryrose Mantle.”

Trowbridge’s annual carnival will be held on October 20 and the organisers would still like to hear from anyone who’d be interested in taking part.
