Drunk driver crashes with police car

A FEMALE driver has been arrested for driving with excess alcohol after colliding with a police vehicle.
The incident took place on Saturday, September 15, at 10.45pm at the junction of Clarence Street and Princes Street in Swindon town centre.
Officers in a marked police car had stopped to give way at the junction when the car travelling behind did not stop and struck the rear of the police vehicle.
When speaking to the female driver, officers quickly ascertained she was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The woman, a 34-year-old from Swindon, was arrested and taken to Gablecross Police Station where she was found to be one and a half times over the legal drink drive limit.
She was charged with driving with excess alcohol and will appear at Swindon Magistrates Court next month.
Swindon Response Inspector Colin Conway said: “Wiltshire Police advice to all drivers is not to drink and drive at all and if you have any information at all on people who are willing to take that chance then please call us, anonymously if necessary and we will act upon it.
“We will use our powers under the Road Traffic Act to deter, locate and arrest those drivers who do take that chance however in this particular instance the officers did not have to look very far.”
