Youth  theatre group First Stages and community choir Sing Alive are creating a musical extravaganza to raise money for the Devizes’ Mayor Charity Appeal next month.

The concert SING! will bring together singers from eight to nearly eighty for an evening of family entertainment on October 13 at Devizes School.

Town Mayor Kelvin Nash said: “We are a musical family, playing with the Devizes Town Band and with the Wyvern Band and my wife Pam also sings with the Sing Alive Community Choir so it felt natural to put on a concert to raise money for our chosen charities.”

The Mayor and Mayoress have chosen three local groups to support in their 2012/13 charity appeal. The Kennet Gateway Club for adults with learning difficulties, the Devizes Opportunity Centre who support very young children with a range of disabilities and the Devizes Friday Craft Club for visually impaired people.

Coun Nash added: “As the charities support children and adults we wanted to create a musical evening for all ages so are delighted that First Stages, run by a colleague who works for the town council, agreed to take part. They are a very talented group of youngsters and combined with the fun and joy that Sing Alive create it promises to be an inspiring evening”

Carole Berry, artistic director of First Stages said: “We are very excited to be a part of this concert. We love putting on a show and have put together a range of songs from musicals to pop that we know the audience will love.”

Sian Penlington, musical director of Sing Alive, added: “Kelvin and Pam have been such great supporters of the choir since we started in 2008 and it’s lovely to be able to support their chosen charities this year. It’ll be a fun night and we’re hoping to raise the roof when the two groups come together on stage for the grand finale.”

The concert will be held in the main hall at Devizes School. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Refreshments will be on sale.
Tickets £8 (£5 for under 16s) available from Devizes Books or text 07809 566021.
