A day celebrating a tiny car will raise a big amount of money for charity at the end of the month.

The 20th MiniWorld Action Day will take place at the Castle Combe Circuit on September 29, with organisers choosing the raise cash for The Forever Friends Appeal at Bath’s Royal United Hospital during the event.

The day will have something for everyone, but it holds a special place in Mini-mad fan’s hearts, as it exhibits thousands of the British cars, and enthusiasts have the opportunity to take to the track themselves.

Rodney Gooch, who is helping to organise the huge event and works for the circuit, said this year’s chosen charity was picked thanks to an appeal in the Gazette.

The Gazette ran an article on August 16, encouraging people from the area to take part in fundraising for the hospital.

Mr Gooch said: “We’re always trying to find local charities to help out.
“We spotted the article in the Gazette and Herald, and I contacted [community fundraiser] Zoe Tainton to say we wanted to help out, and that we were expecting to have a couple of grand or more available for them after the event. It was as a direct result of the article, so it’s done a lot of good.”

The event, as well as doing good for the hospital, is set to include some white-knuckle fun for all the family.

The Mighty Mini Racers will return to the circuit once again to give fast passenger laps to spectators and visitors.

The racers charge £20 to take fans on a speedy lap around the circuit, with the Minis driven by some of the country’s top racers.

Lucky visitors could find themselves sitting next to 2010 Mighty Mini Champion Louise Inch, who is confirmed to attend.

Zoe Tainton said: “This is a world-wide recognised event that is supporting the RUH’s Cancer Care Campaign – we are very excited to be there on the day.

“For all those that may not know already, the appeal is raising a minimum of £5m over the next four years towards the cost of the £20.5m new cancer centre at the RUH. This is a huge project which will make dramatic changes to the RUH. The centre will deliver a uniquely beneficial healing environment with improved outcomes, an exceptional patient experience and a strong focus on long-term survivorship.”

Mr Gooch said: “Over the last 20 years, we’ve raised around £20,000 for local charities and good causes.

“It’s really nice to be able to raise for the cancer centre this year.”
