3 Yorks soldiers to be repatriated tomorrow

The bodies of Warminster-based soldiers Sergeant Gareth Thursby, 29, and Private Thomas Wroe, 18, will be repatriated at RAF Brize Norton tomorrow afternoon.

The pair, from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, which is based in Battlesbury Barracks, were killed in Afghanistan on Saturday.

The plane will land at around 1.30pm and the cortege will pass the Memorial Garden between 4.15-4.30pm, where friends, relatives and comrades will pay their respects.

The cortege will arrive at the John Radcliffe Hospital between 5.15-5.30pm.

Defence sources said the men were killed at a checkpoint when a man dressed as a policeman pretended to be injured so they would help him. An investigation is under way.

The body of Lance Corporal Duane Groom, a Grenadier Guardsman killed on Friday, will also be repatriated.

There will be road closures in place at the Marston Ferry Road / Cherwell Drive Junction, Marston Road / Cherwell Drive Junction, and at the mini roundabout by the entrance to the hospital.
