Chance of rail romance on First Great Western

A SMITTEN commuter has placed a message in a national newspaper to find a rookie First Great Western worker.

Cupid’s arrow struck for one passenger who developed a gay crush on the Stroud Valley Line between Swindon and Cheltenham earlier this week.

The message said the male member of staff looked ‘hot’ in the company’s uniform.

So hot, in fact, that the admirer left a message promising to save their crush a seat.

It read: “To the male First Great Western staff member learning the Stroud Valley line between Swindon and Cheltenham on Monday and Tuesday this week: you look hot in your uniform. “You caught my eye when you sat opposite me in coach E.

“I hope you’re on the same train tomorrow, I'll save you a seat.”

The message appeared in the Metro yesterday and was no doubt read by thousands of commuters making the journey to and from London Paddington.

The sender described himself as the ‘guy with the iPad in seat 60’.

It appeared among other romantic messages from rush-hour commuters.

First Great Western trains from Swindon may conjure images of the morning rush hour but the company does provide the setting for more romantic moments. It runs the Pullman service with silver service dining between London and the West Country.

Swindon itself has also shown its soppy side in the past with amorous messages broadcast onto the Big Screen at Wharf Green. In the run-up to Valentine’s Day people were able to tweet, text or email messages of love onto the giant London 2012 display.

The screen emerged as one of the most popular in the country, with approximately 100 messages love screened as well as at least 10 proposals of marriage.

A spokesman for First Great Western declined to comment on the message.

Hmmm ... this seems a very inappropriate story for family reading? A bit different if it was a male and a female ... where have we gone?

Disgusting and in bad taste, especially when it's displaying someone's behavioral problems on a big screen when there are families and young children about.
What if it comes out who the member of staff is and he is offended?

I think the 2 posters above are worried that reading about gay people will turn them gay.

The sex of those involved should make no difference as to whether this story was published. "Where have we gone?" I'll tell you: The 21st Century. Bigot.

OMG this is not what I was expecting! I have to say if I was the employee in the uniform I would be disgusted. Why is this even news anyway?

I've no idea why something as trivial and normal as this is news either

So observations are not acceptable on here without some backlash? I don't think I am the shallow one in my comments ... just look at both sides, as I did, and you will see others' points of view!

It is still a very controversial story to some of us who have produced children, show me a pair of gays who have created a child without interference from medical science and I will accept that I am a 'bigot', mate?

PaulD says...
2:08pm Thu 20 Sep 12

what has children got to do with anything?

Is the ability to procreate the only value of life? If so, then does anyone who cannot do so for whatever reason get the same level of contempt from you?

I hope those of you with such contempt for 10% of the population never have to be faced with needing help or assistance from a gay police officer, paramedic, doctor, fireman/woman. Or that your children/grandchildr
en (and I assume great-great-great grandchildren in your cases) never have a gay teacher or a gay friend or colleague

And what about gay servicemen and women in the armed forces? Are they protecting you right now? OH MY GOD! They are!

What if you ever need an organ transplant and the only available donor is gay?! Could you put a gay man's organ inside of you? I bet you would, with a little coaxing.

What the hell does having kids have to do with this? So when you produced children you suddenly stopped respect same sex couples and the rights they have by law?

Also if you don't like homosexuality maybe your procreation argument should be aimed at the straight people who keep having homosexual offspring.

I am in no way anti-gay, however I like to call a spade a spade.how can being gay be the norm?

ah, now are you appear to be deliberately trying to confuse statistical methods with social attitudes to normality

10% of the global population are born gay. They don't chose to be gay. They are born gay.

10% may not sound like a huge number, but it is still significant, even statistically so.

Being gay is normal. Being straight is normal.
Being a bit of both is normal. Being neither is normal.

Irrational hatred, fear and discrimination of homosexuals is abnormal.

You're hijacking the meaning of the word normal and presuming that the description "abnormal" is a bad thing. I would say that Einstein and Mozart were both abnormal.

As to your latter point - I would say that was perfectly normal.

Political correctness really is a nonsense.

I would call them 'out of the ordinary' or extraordinary

the word 'abnormal' when used in a social context is very definitely a negative

Making a comment such as "would you put a gay man's organ inside you" totally reinforces the stereotype which straight people have about gays. Please do yourselfs a favour!

So now I have to wait for the next post which will say that because I in any way criticise gay people then I must be "secretly gay" - yawn! Could gay people really be that stereotypical (see post 3)?

I have no idea. You'd have to ask one
