FROME Town chief Darren Perrin was full of praise for his squad after they withstood a host of injuries and suspensions to record back-to-back victories this week.

On Saturday, Matt Smith and Darren Jefferies were on target with first-half strikes in the 2-1 victory at Cambridge City before, on Wednesday, Mike Perrott and Dean Evans netted either side of half time to see off Weymouth.

Delighted Perrin said: “Last week, if you’d have offered me a point at Cambridge and a point at home to Weymouth, I probably would have taken that, so the players have been absolutely magnificent.

“We’ve been down to the bare bones and on Saturday, we had to dig deep and show a lot of doggedness.

“Then, on Wednesday, we were excellent for 55 minutes of the game and could have scored a lot more than two.

“The squad deserves a lot of credit.

“I don’t usually single people out for praise but Lewis Powell has been brilliant since he’s come to the club and his link-up play has given brought us something that we haven’t had before.”

Frome go in search of an upset in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup tomorrow when they host Conference South Weston-super-Mare.

“There will be a cup shock somewhere around the country and we’ve got to try and see if it can be us but although we go into the game full of confidence, we know that we’re definitely the underdogs,” said Perrin.

“But everyone at the club is looking forward to the game.”

Striker Dave Gilroy made his Frome debut as a substitute against Weymouth after his switch from Chippenham Town.

The Robins will be without the suspended Alex Lapham, Tom Evans and Perrott against Weston while Mike Reaney and Ben Wood are injured.
