DAVE Webb might be content with the start that Supermarine have made to the 2012/13 season, but he has urged his players to achieve much more.

Marine are currently ninth in Division One South & West having been relegated from the Southern Premier last season, and the South Marston boss knows that consistency is the key if his players are to be challenge for promotion come the closing months of the season.

Ahead of tomorrow’s league trip to Taunton, Webb said: “Would I have taken where we are after nine games? Yes, I probably would.

“We’ve won a game in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy and only lost once in the league, so we have to be happy with that, but we want to kick on and get better.

“A lot of players left the club in the summer and of those that stayed, most of them probably didn’t play as much as they would have liked last season.

“I need them to step up now and help the lads that have come up from the league below.

“We’ve got a decent group of players who are getting used to playing together. Against teams in our league we should be very competitive, but we need consistency week in, week out, whoever plays.

“We’ve shown how good we can be and as a manager I want to see us replicate that as many times as possible. If we drop below that, I always think we can improve.”

Midfielder Matty Horsell is absent due to work commitments for tomorrow’s journey to Wordsworth Drive, so Harry Etheridge will be drafted into the squad.

“If we go to Taunton and underestimate them, then we will get beat,” continued Webb.

“If we play like we did on Tuesday (in the FA Trophy replay win against Yate) then we can win.

“They have got some good players in midfield and a lad (Rodney Marsh) who Frome were in for. They have been in the league for a long time so it will be a difficult trip.”

Meanwhile, Webb has sent his good wishes to Dave Turner and his Wootton Bassett side ahead of their`FA Cup showdown with Dorchester.

Bassett face the Blue Square South giants in the second qualifying round, the furthest they have ever got in the competition.

“I wish Dave and Wootton Bassett all the best on Saturday, it will be a fantastic experience for them,” said Webb.

“I’m sure they will go down there and enjoy the day, that’s what it’s all about. It’s a great achievement for the club to get that far in the FA Cup.”
