Lionel Richie cancels gig at Newbury today

AWARD-winning singer Lionel Richie has cancelled his headline gig at The Racecourse Newbury, due to illness.

A statement from Richie’s management company released said that the international star visited doctors and needed treatment, and could not perform on Saturday night.

Ticketholders will be offered compensation, but racing will still go ahead.

The statement from his management said: “Lionel is extremely disappointed that he has had to cancel his appearance at The Racecourse Newbury tomorrow. He has been looking forward to his visit and performing at this unique venue.”

The joint managing director of The Racecourse Newbury, Stephen Higgins, said: “We are disappointed for our race-goers and for all of the Lionel Richie fans. However, we can still look forward to a day of racing.”

Ticketholders are entitled to £15 compensation against their purchase, according to the venue.

Those with Golden Circle tickets will be entitled to £25 compensation.
