Premises ban for alcoholic after binge

AN all-day drinking binge has led to an alcoholic being banned from every licensed premises across the town – bar one.
Aaron Gleed, of Frobisher Drive, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday, just three months into an exclusion order.
The 23-year-old was given the court order in July excluding him from any pub in Swindon town centre following a string of offences.
He broke the order in dramatic style by visiting three pubs in the same day, consuming more than 10 pints of lager.
The all-day bender started at 11.30am on Monday, September 17, when Gleed and a friend visited The Savoy pub in Regent Street and The Sir Daniel Arms in Fleet Street, being kicked out of both.
The pair then headed to TPs, also in Fleet Street, where they were said to be rowdy and were swearing at bar staff.
While Gleed was visiting a nearby shop, his friend had got himself kicked out by the assistant manager.
When he returned he went into the pub and confronted him and then sat on a chair saying “move me”.
He was eventually evicted from the bar and as he was leaving the premises he picked up an aluminium chair and swung it at the assistant boss, striking his hand.
Gleed yesterday admitted to charges of assault and breaching the licensing exclusion order, and his solicitor Sam Arif blamed his actions on his alcohol dependency.
She said: “He had been drinking most of the day, and he does describe himself as being alcohol dependent. He wants to apologise for his behaviour and his involvement in this incident.
“He has entered guilty pleas and he has co-operated with the police.”
The case has been adjourned for three weeks to allow for a pre-sentence report.
Chair of the bench Martyn Cook bailed Gleed on three strict conditions. He has been banned from entering any licensed premises except for the Co-op in Cavendish Square – to allow him to do his food shopping – until the next court date.
A curfew was also placed on him, keeping him at his address in Frobisher Drive between 7pm and 7am every day.
He must also comply with the probation team in producing the pre-sentence report.
