Rain hits indoor sports too

HEAVY rain has caused disruption to fitness classes at the Link Centre in Swindon.
The sports hall, gym and one of the activity rooms had to be closed on Monday after leaks appeared in the roof during a downpour.
A spokesman for the council said they hoped activities would be back to normal tomorrow.
“The roof at The Link is currently being repaired as part of a five-month programme of work costing up to £1m,” he said.
“So before too long water leaks will be a thing of the past.
“This work only started three weeks ago, so most areas of the roof have not yet been fixed.
“The unrepaired areas can withstand average rainfall, but Monday’s rain was extremely heavy and prolonged.
“It came through into the building in a number of places.
“As a result we had to close part of the sports hall, the gym and one of the activity rooms, which led to the cancellation of around a quarter of the booked fitness classes. We also had to move some football games from the sports hall to the outside pitches.
“We’re sorry for the disruption to customers that this caused.
“We are hoping to re-open the affected facilities today but our advice to everyone is to check with the Link centre before setting off.”
The pool at the Link Centre is shut until February while refurbishment is carried out.
The spokesman said the pool had not been affected by the leak.
