Shoppers flock to reopened Game store

Following the closure of two stores in March, GAME has reopened its doors in Regent Street and it proved itself as popular as ever, with hundreds paying a trip to the shop.

The store is part of the Game Retail, a new company which started up in April 2012.

The opening has not created any new jobs, with staff being transferred from the Gamestation store, which closed on Tuesday.

The transfer is part of the new vision for the retail company, which will see the unification of its retail outlets, GAME and Gamestation, come together under one brand.

Director Dave Howard said the firm was delighted to be back in the heart of the town.

He said: “We are so pleased to be able to return High Street gaming to Swindon.”

“We have missed being part of the community on Regent Street, but now we are back and ready to get our game on once more.”

Staff at the store said that they were very pleased to be back in Regent Street and had been swamped with customers all day.

Manager James Uphill said: “It has been a busy day but it is great.

“The feedback we have had from customers has been fantastic and could not be more positive.

“It is good to be in Regent Street because it is a better space and the footfall is higher.”

Chairman of the Swindon Chamber of Commerce, Heydar Faramarzi, said the re-opening was good news for the town.

He said: “The opening of any business in the town centre is always good news.

“This is something we are all trying to do to encourage more businesses, especially new business to set up in the town centre.”

Customers have also welcomed the return of GAME – saying that it brings more variety to the shops in the town centre.

Ryan Peters, 23, of Old Town said: “I was disappointed when both GAME stores closed because it meant there was one less place for us go.

“The more competition the better it is for everyone.

“It is always better to see a shop than just an empty shell which is usually a target of vandalism.”
