A YOUNG woman was left shaken after a male driver grabbed her by the wrist as she walked in the town centre.

The incident happened at about 7.45pm on Monday night as the 21-year-old victim was walking away from the town centre on Faringdon Road, near the park, when a silver BMW pulled up alongside.

The driver wound down the passenger window and leaned across as if to ask for directions.

When the woman approached the car he asked where she was going, and then for her name and address.

As she started to move back he reached out and briefly held her wrist before she managed to break free and walk away. He then drove off.

PC Andrew Lee said: “This was an upsetting experience for the young woman and we are very keen to find the driver.

“We would urge this man to come forward and speak to police so that we can clarify what happened.

“He is described as being of Asian appearance but possibly of mixed race. He is thought to be in his late 20s or early 30s with short black hair. He may have been wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

“The silver BMW had an extended boot and red interior.”

Police would like to hear from any who witnessed the incident as well as anyone who might have experienced a similar incident or has any information that might lead them to the car and its driver.
