NORTH Wilts began their Wessex Division 1 campaign with a bang courtesy of a 6-2 thumping of West Wilts A.

The home side registered three times in the first 15 minutes though Nicole Dhillon, Georgie Foster and Emma Hindmarch.

West Wilts hit back with a goal of their own, only for North Wilts captain Molly Leslie to restore the three-goal lead.

The deficit was reduced to 4-2 before half time, but after the break North Wilts’ quality came through as they kept their opponents at bay.

They increased their lead in the closing moments through Foster and Camilla Fisher.

North Wilts travel to Chippenham 2nds on Saturday (10.30am).

SWINDON eased to a 3-0 triumph at Bournemouth 2nds in Premier Division 2A.

Swindon were 1-0 up within five minutes of pushback when Linda Brouwers’ good pass from a long corner was slotted in by Lynsey Wall.

Just before half time a second goal came from another long corner, when Sue Roberts ran behind the defence and picked out Vicki Stokes, who found the net.

Bournemouth increased the pressure after the break but their only opportunity came from a short corner, which keeper Sarah Annesty saved with ease.

The Wiltshire side showed their opponents how to do it as Sue Roberts set up Stokes to finish.

Player of the match was shared between Nicci Foster and Fran Bennett for their attacking and defensive play down the right.

Swindon host Cirencester at Isambard Community School in Saturday (12.30pm).

THERE was a disappointing start to the 2011/12 season for Wootton Bassett in North Division.

They were defeated 4-1 by Bretforton with Ceri Burgess grabbing the hosts’ consolation.

Bassett will hope to get back on track against Leominster at Bridge Street Sports Park on Saturday (10.30am).

NORTH Wilts A were defeated 2-0 by South Glos in a hard-fought encounter in Berkeley Division 3.

Sian Fletcher and Bethan Emmerson dealt with the early threats but with 25 minutes gone, South Glos found a way through.

After the break, led by a sterling performance from Gabby Bickell, North Wilts went in search of the equaliser.

However, South Glos profited on the counter and their forward slotted past goalkeeper Emms.

Home skipper Gawthorn had the chance to pull a goal back with a penalty stroke, but her effort bounced off the post.

After that, Danni Cremin came closest to reducing the advantage, only to be denied by the keeper.

North Wilts 2nds visit Badminton at Yate Sports Complex on Saturday.

SWINDON 2nds got their Wessex Division 2 season off to a positive start with a 2-1 victory over West Wilts 3rds.

Charlotte Bunce and Michelle Harding were on the scoresheet while Kerry Baker was nominated player of the match.

This Saturday, Swindon 2nds make the short trip to Marlborough 2nds (10am).
