NEW College has become the only college in the area to offer a full range of counselling training courses.

The college has launched the Level 4 diploma in therapeutic counselling.

Students on the course have spent up to three years completing the introduction and Level 2 and Level 3 in counselling.

Kerry Barrett, who is studying for the diploma said: “I was inspired to become a counsellor after seeing how it really helped a family member in need.

“I want to help other people and give them hope. I’ve really enjoyed learning about my different layers and you really do open yourself up to so much. You learn how to be patient and see the bigger picture.”

Nikkie Horsey, who is also taking the diploma, said: “I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, and now I can as my children are older and it fits so well around my schedule. It’s been a journey and I’ve learnt so much about myself.”

The students are expected to attend a series of selection events designed to ensure only the most capable progress through the levels and on to the diploma, which will mean they are fully qualified counsellors.
